U13 City East Summer Development Underway

On a very wet Friday evening, the 9th of June, five of the teams who had registered for the summer schedule games gathered in Killeagh to take part in the first of the U13 City East Summer Development scheduled evenings. Aghada due to the passing of Mrs Motherway during the week decided to cancel their games as a mark of respect for the Motherway Family in Aghada, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Motherway family in Aghada and to John who has refereed a lot of games over the years.

We had Killeagh as hosts and Erins Own, Fr O’Neills, Castlelyons and Watergrasshill on the two pitches for the evening. Before the teams took to the field GDA’s for the City And East Sean Crowley and Shane Supple spoke to all the players in the hall in Killeagh outlining what these development games and sessions were about and they reminded each player to just enjoy the game time and relax and have fun. the session was broken down into 15 mins games with each team playing the other 4 teams on a rotation basis. It was to be 9 aside on reduced sized pitched 21 to 21 and field narrowed.

At 6.30pm on the dot both referees James Daly and Neil  Barrett threw in the ball on both pitches and the games were underway. Our first pairing on pitch 1 saw Killeagh play Watergrasshill and on Pitch 2 we saw Fr O Neills play Castlelyons. Our second game saw Erins Own play Castlelyons and Killeagh take on Fr O Neills, our third match saw Castlelyons play Watergrasshill and Killeagh played Erins Own and our final games saw Erins Own play Fr O’Neills and Castlelyons play Watergrasshill.

The response to the summer scheduled program of coaching and games for the U13 in the City and East has been fantastic and has been welcomed by all clubs taking part

According to the mentors after the games this evening.

“Its great to be able to take part and give the young lads something to do on a Friday evening”

“It gives the lads something to look forward to at the weekend,”

Despite the rain the players enjoyed themselves and the fact that they can play 9 aside means each player gets more time on the ball. Thank you to the Killeagh Club for facilitating the games this evening for more information on our schedule please check out our booking pages here
