 Benchmarking
Reminder to all clubs that National schools coaching is number 1 requirement for benchmarking 2020. Juniors, seniors, first and second are the classes that need to be focused on as part of this.
Club-school link day
If your club has not invited the school down to the local pitch, please do so over the coming weeks as benchmarking for the year is closing the end of October and this is one of the requirements also.

Post Primary Schools
North region First year Football blitz
A 9-a-side Football blitz for first year boys will take place in Mallow on Wednesday 16th for Post primary schools. 9 teams have already entered, these are: Patrician Academy x2 Davis College x2, Boherbue, Milstreet, Scoil Mhuire Kanturk, St. fanahans and Buttevant.  Each team will play 3 games on the day and were refereed by TY students from the participating schools. The event is being run by Noel Crowley GDO and myself on the day.
There’s a great hunger in the region for a first year competition with smaller number teams for our local post primary schools who struggle with the 15 a side game.
I intend to discuss this with the Avondhu and Duhallow adult boards in the near future.

Post primary schools coaching
Schools coaching assistance for both football and hurling is being offered to all Post Primary schools in the region with part of the funding coming from Rebel Og coaching, part from the schools and some from the feeder clubs in the area. There has been a great reaction to this from clubs and it is getting great feedback from the schools. Coaching has started some of the schools already.
Coaching education / Young Whistler refereeing
A coaching course for Transition Year students is being rolled out in all post primary schools in the region at the minute.
Students who enrol for this course and want to receive their cert will:

  • Have to help out with national schools coaching.
  • Run a first year blitz internally in the school.

  • Be available to referee at monster blitz’s for their club.
  • Coach in 4 training sessions within their clubs nursery programme, to be signed off on by their clubs coaching officer. (GDA sends parents phone number of each student to the coaching officer of the club they sign up for.)
GDA is running these courses in each school along with taking P.E. classes and school teams coaching sessions each day that he is in the school.

Clubs cannot book courses for their club through the GDA anymore, this has to be done online on the Rebel Óg coaching website, and click on courses, from now on.
Any queries on the above you can contact me.
A level 1 coaching course has been organised for Mitchelstown in early January. Course will be open to all clubs in the region, with a limitation of 4 places per club. More information to follow in the next newsletter.

Workshops

we will be rolling out workshops in the North region in the new year. If there’s a particular workshop that you’d like to see run in your area, please contact me on the information below.

Benchmarking

Clubs are being reminded that benchmarking for the year is closing the 25th November. I just forwarded the information needed to all club secretaries and coaching officers and the senior administrator for the County board will be in contact with details of how to submit this information in the coming weeks.
