Lord Mayors Cup Hurling Finals

On Tuesday 1st May the finals took place of the Lord Mayors Cup Hurling competition with 6 teams waiting to see who would hold the cup after each final today. On the day Cllr Terry Shannon on behalf of the Lord Mayor presented the cups to the winning teams. A big thank you to UCC for hosting our finals at the Mardyke and to all the staff for making sure the games ran smoothly on the day despite the weather. This competition is proving more popular each year with many schools taking part in both hurling and football. Today was the hurlers who took to the fields and next week we will have our Football Finals

A Hurling Finals

On Tuesday 17th April in Pairc Ui Chaoimh the first of this years Lord Mayors Cup A Hurling Semi Finals took place, between Midleton CBS and the Mon AG. Ref Pat Lyons threw in the ball at 1 pm and for the next hour both teams gave it their all. With a total of 5 goals and 42 points during the game both teams were only separated by a few points at the final whistle with The Mon AG coming out winners and going forward to the finals.

The second A Semi Final followed the first game and we had St Colemans Fermoy playing Christian Brother College Cork and again this was a high scoring game with a total of 4 goals and 35 points scored with only 1 point separating the teams at the end with St Colemans winning by the narrowest of margins to take their place in the final against The Mon AG.

B Hurling Finals

On Friday 20th April,four  teams from the following schools arrived in Pairc Ui Chaoimh to take part in the Lord Mayors Cup the B section Semi Finals.  The referee for these games was Ian Thomas.  The games were played in a blitz format with each team playing the other three teams in the group and the two teams with the most points at the end of the day would make it to the B Finals. In this case after a long days hurling Hamilton High School Bandon and Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh, Bishopstown,  both made it through to the B Finals of the Lord Mayors Cup.

C Hurling Finals

On Friday 20th April, the teams arrived in Pairc Ui Chaoimh to take part in the C section Semi Finals of the Lord Mayors Cup.  One team could not make it on the day so we were left with three teams contesting the semi finals, North Mon, Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal Blarney and Presentation Brothers College, Cork.  The referee for these games was Cathal Egan.  The games were played in a blitz format with each team playing the other teams in the group and the two teams with the most points at the end of the day would make it to the C Finals.

After a long days hurling  Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal Blarney and Presentation Brothers College, Cork made it through to the C Finals.
