A good week for Cork GAA

It has been a good week (and a half) for Cork GAA and in particular, our Rebel Óg coaching structures.

Fé 14 Hurling
Sat 29th April a Fé 14 Inter Regional Hurling Blitz was held in Castlemartyr with our 4 Cork regional squads against Waterford teams , Cork East, Cork City, Cork North and Cork West won all their games against the Waterford 1 and 2 teams. Click here for more information

Fé 15 Hurling
Last weekend, the 4 Rebel Óg Fé 15 Regional Hurling Squads represented Cork in the Munster Inter Regional Tournament. The East and City Squads were very competitive on Saturday April 29th and both could have emerged from their groups if luck had been on their side. A further issue was the fact that many of these boys had played with their clubs the night before. This certainly was a factor on the days results.
The West and North Squads topped their groups to play on Monday May 1st in the competition semi finals. The North beat Mid Tipperary in the semi final before dispatching of North Tipperary in the final who had beaten the Cork West Squad in the other semi final.
While the North Squad deserve huge credit for winning this competition, the overall level of the 4 Cork Regions was most pleasing, with all being competitive. Cork was the only county with a 4 way split on its pool of players.  Click here for more information

Fé 16 Hurling
In Ballyhea our Cork  Fe 16 A & B teams took on  Clare and Dublins A & B teams. Game 1 saw Cork win both games Cork A 2-13 v Clare A  0-5 and our Cork B 4-15 v Clare B 0-2 later in the day they played Dublin with Cork A 1-10 winning over Dublin A 0-9 and Cork B narrowly losing 1-14  to Dublin B’s 2-15 Click here for more information

Fé 18 Hurling

Celtic Challenge
On Wednesday, May 03, 2017 in the Group B section of the Celtic Challenge Cup  our North Cork team overcame Kerry in Austin Stack Park while our West Cork team were beaten by West Limerick in Donoughmore and in Group E we had both Cork teams play each other in a great tight game Cork City v East Cork. All of the above certainly is reliant on many variables but it is certainly encouraging to see such a spread of our squads competing so well at county level.

Great credit is due to the network of club coaches around the county who work so hard with players, our development squad mentors, schools coaches and our full time coaching staff who put the structures in place at squad level to help make the player pathway effective in allowing players reach their potential.
