The last of our football games in the GAA Monster Blitz season took place this Saturday 8th October. The games provided a conclusion to a season of blitzes which commenced in March. A calendar of activity was given to clubs in February involving a minimum of 1 blitz per month in hurling and football.
The final blitz day saw our Fé7, Fé8 & Fé9 club teams, county wide participate in games this Saturday in the following venues Clonakilty, Bandon, Eire Óg, Bishopstown, Mayfield, Lisgould, Cloyne, Doneraile and St Michaels.
Between 10am and 12pm, there was over 2,500 boys playing football. Games were played as 7 a side and the structure allowed small clubs compete with bigger clubs (as the big clubs enter multiple teams). The emphasis was on fun and participation for all boys which provides the perfect platform for the players to develop the basic skills of the game in 3 games over the 2 hours.
We had senior inter county players present at different blitzes today and medals were given to the players as a badge of honour for completing their 2016 football blitz programme. A big thank you to the following footballers who took time out to attend our blitzs today. Peter Kelleher, Stephen Cronin, Kieran Histon, Michael Hurley and Tomas Clancy
The hurling equivalent will take place on October 15th with a similar programme planned.
Can we just say a huge thank you to all clubs who hosted our football blitzes during the year, they laid on pitches, refreshments, facilities, parking, dressing rooms if needed etc and it was great to see such fantastic support from our local clubs. To all the clubs, players, mentors, parents who took part this year we thank you and we hope that you enjoyed the year as much as we did.
